What To Wear To An Interview

What to wear to an interview

Going for an interview is always stressful, no matter if it’s your first or one hundred and first. It’s a process that most of us will have to go through at least once in our lives, if not more. In fact, whenever I meet with a potential client, I need to remember that the meeting is an interview. Whenever I attend a networking event or even a party, they are all types of interviews.

Since you’ll be stressed out enough on that day, why not have a checklist in order to help keep the guesswork out of what to wear.  Keep everything neat and orderly in a structured bag. There’s nothing worse than seeing someone fumble through their papers, so it’s important to ensure that anything you might need is at your fingertips.

I’m a firm believer that you cannot look too professional at an interview, even if it’s for a creative position. For instance,  I wore a skirt and blouse when I was applying to work at a gym, (after first making sure that I wouldn’t need to train anyone in my meeting). In other words, looking polished is a must. Taking this point one step further I like to dress for one position above the one I’m interviewing for. It shows your interviewer that you have done your research about the company and that you are ambitious and motivated.

  9. I love how you have a creative version. My first job was at big finance corporation, so I definitely had the suit on for that interview. But then when I moved to an agency, I made sure to wear some colors and was careful to give my look a bit of an “edge” so I don’t look frumpy and boring.

  11. I’m one of those people that get really overwhelmed when it comes to picking out clothes for an interview. I’m always worried that I end up looking too casual or too formal (as opposed to professional). But you’re right, always try and look polished!
