The Christmas Bear

Christmas Bear

Christmas Bear. I’d like everyone to meet Charlie the Christmas Bear. Most of his story is unknown to me. Perhaps he was won at a carnival for a child or by a young man trying to impress his first love. Perhaps he was lovingly picked out by a grandparent hoping for a glimpse of joy in a grandchild’s eyes. Maybe he was a gift from proud parents to a newborn, or maybe someone just saw him in a toy store and decided to bring him home.

In any case Charlie wound up sitting in the garbage room of my building on a cold, wet evening last week. He was sitting in the corner patiently waiting for someone to take him to his next home. Starring into those big brown soulful eyes I was just devastated that I couldn’t give him what his heart most desired. I apologized profusely and closed the door with a sad heart.

The very next day, however, as I came downstairs to take my pup for a walk there he was! Proudly sitting on his very own stand by the Christmas tree in the lobby. Now he sits there with a giant smile on his face overseeing all of us as we enter and leave our homes. He has become the building mascot and will forever hold a place in my heart. If you are lucky enough to be living in Yaletown you just might catch a glimpse of Charlie the Christmas Bear as warms himself by the fireplace in the lobby.

I hope everyone is having a truly wonderful holiday!
