How To Wear Pearls

How to wear pearls. Pearls are elegant, lady-like and simply put, chic.  I have built up quite the collection at this point, some are real and some are not, and I’ve discovered that they can be worn with many outfits and for almost any occasion. It just depends on how you style them.  Wearing pearls can really elevate an outfit to new heights of sophistication.  It used to be that only our grandmothers wore pearls but I believe they can be worn at any age. In fact, I have a wonderful pearl pendant which I received as a young girl and have cherished ever since.

How to Wear Pearls

Casual. My favourite way to wear pearls is in a casual setting. Dark denim, paired with a crisp white shirt and a simple strand of pearls? This will forever remain a classic. Try this look with a 16″  or 18″  strand, a length which will sit gently on your collarbones and show them off. Adding a long strand of pearls will make any outfit more casual and is a wonderful nod to style icon Coco Chanel. I love the look of knotting a long strand, although in this case, I would stick to faux pearls. Why not add some pearls to your hair style? How about a messy bun with interspersed pearls? Or for an unexpected and fun look, try pulling your hair back with a pearl clip.  Pearls don’t have to just be for weddings anymore! Formal. Picture a little black dress, a great pair of heels and a classic strand of pearls or perhaps a pearl pendant. For a formal event, you can opt for some pearl earrings, bracelet or even a great ring. For a more glamorous affair, pick up a fur collar (yes it can be faux fur) and a long strand of pearls. Think of “The Great Gatsby” and let that inspire your look. Perhaps try a silk, off white blouse paired with high-waisted trousers or a flirty pleated dress. Combing pearls and precious stones, such as diamonds, is a very elegant look. It is timeless, sophisticated and impossible to ignore.  If you are unsure where to start, I have found some very beautiful and sophisticated combinations at National Pearl. A classic string of pearls is a great investment piece. At one point they were the most precious of all stones. Over time you will find yourself reaching for it more and more often.
