Why are accessories important. I really love fashion. I don’t spend my days reading fashion magazines and I certainly don’t obsess over what I am wearing on any given day but I do love beautiful fabrics and cuts. I absolutely appreciate a fantastic outfit and if I had all the money in the world, I’d probably travel and shop in the most exotic of places.

Unfortunately, I often can’t afford the best of the best so I’ve learned to turn my attention to accessories.  In fact, in high school, I was known for having really cool jewelry and I loved shopping for cool and unique pieces that I knew no one else would have.

There’s a certain magic to accessories that shouldn’t be ignored, even if you aren’t very interested in fashion.

WHY ARE ACCESSORIES IMPORTANT

They show off your personality. While we don’t fundamentally change, our personalities do get polished as we age and accessories can show that off perfectly. I may no longer wear the same kitschy necklaces but I do have an everyday necklace that has become a part of my “image”.

They hold unimaginable power. Alright I might be slightly exaggerating here, but only slightly.

• Think about how great you feel when you buy a small trinket, it really can make your day. I know that I can’t wait to show off a new bag or a new piece of jewelry.
• Not only that, but they can completely transform an outfit. Something so simple as a red lipstick and statement earrings can elevate a little black dress for a nighttime outing, while a pair of sneakers can bring it down to daytime levels.

They allow you to wear the same clothing over and over again. Since I spend most of my days writing at home, I tend to keep my outfits fairly simple. Usually, weather permitting, I can be found in short and a t-shirt. Since I don’t go out much, I only have one or two dresses for special occasions. Both pieces are fairly simple but I can make them look completely different just by changing up the accessories. Statement earrings, necklaces or even a large cocktail ring and right away your eye is drawn to that item instead of my dress.

They complete an outfit. On its own a white shirt and jeans is just that, a very simple nondescript outfit. Add a fabulous bag, some great heels and a scarf and you now have a polished ensemble.
