How To Style A T-Shirt

How to style a t-shirt.  We all have them, some of us in abundance, filling our closets summer, spring, fall and winter. Well worn tees, over sized tees and brand new ones just waiting to be worn. Perhaps because it’s one of the easiest pieces to buy, a great t-shirt is somehow so satisfying to own. I have no problem walking into a store and leaving with one (or a few) new tees. It’s so easy.  Also, I know that I will always wear them, so really it doesn’t matter how many I own, right?  Yes they are the perfect piece to wear when lounging on your patio or walking the dog, but there are so many other great ways to style a t-shirt!

How to style a t-shirt

An evening with friends. A classic white tee paired with your favourite jeans is always a great choice. Casual yet chic, this outfit becomes the perfect canvas for some of your most fabulous accessories. Try adding an eye catching pair of earrings, a statement necklace or even a moto jacket for an extra dose of cool.

An afternoon spent shopping. I need to be extra comfortable when shopping, whether it be for groceries or just browsing new clothing collections. This type of occasion calls for a laid back, slouchy tee and some super comfy pants. Over top, I would throw on a structured blazer and a pair of easy hoop earrings. If you know that you will be doing a lot of walking then a pair of converse or booties with a low heel is always a good choice.

A day at the office. Yes, I admit that I’ve been known to don a tee to the office. Lucky for me, it really doesn’t matter what I wear, but even in a more formal environment you can sometimes get away with a slightly more casual look. This is when I would reach for a classic black v-neck tee, perhaps in a jersey or silk, tucked into a pencil skirt. Pair this with a blazer or cardigan and a pretty necklace and you are good to go. Of course, don’t forget to take a sophisticated tote when you run out the door in the morning.

These are just a few suggestions on how to style a basic t-shirt, but I believe that with this staple, you can really let your imagination fly, push your limits, think outside the box and most importantly, have fun with it!
