Blogging and living abroad. I can’t think of a single blogger who doesn’t love to travel, who doesn’t want to discover new places and cultures. Why do we love it? Well, because not only does it make us better, more worldly individuals, but it also adds a whole new element to our passion for beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogging. I writing about this because what we see and where we live has an impact on who we are, our blog branding and what we write about.

Allow your surroundings to influence your writing.  After moving to Europe from Canada, I found my writing style and topics changed because they reflected my new surroundings. I started looking at how people dress in Poland and of course, comparing it to the other countries I’ve travelled to.  This gave me ideas for new posts and even shaped how I approach them. For example, when I lived in Vancouver, it was nominated as one of the worst dressed cities in the world due to the fact that most of its residents are very physically active and everyday revolves around an outdoor lifestyle. At any time of the day you will see people running, biking or heading to a yoga class. So of course, it’s totally normal to see people in workout clothes. I’m seeing a definite shift to the sports mentality in Warsaw, but they are still very influenced by other European cities. This makes for a funny mix sometimes. The one style choice that I simply cannot wrap my head around is the stubborn persistence of nude pantyhose which abounds (yes even in summer). Unless you work in a very conservative environment or are a grandmother, there is simply no excuse to wear them. On the other hand, I’ve been absolutely thrilled to discover amazing designers (many of whom I’ve introduced you to in my Designer Spotlight series).  I’ll go out on a limb and say that some of the most beautiful bags I’ve seen were right here in Warsaw.

BLOGGING AND LIVING ABROAD

The good news is that you don’t actually have to travel to get inspiration for blog posts. The key is rediscovering your own city by visiting a new neighborhood or pretending to be a tourist for a day. We often get so caught up in our daily schedules that we become completely immune to our surroundings.

I believe that it’s a good idea to stop every now and then and re-examine what you are writing about. Take a moment to notice how your surroundings influence your perceptions. The goal is to connect with your current and potential readers and one way of doing that is by allowing your environment to inspire you.
